Friday 4th February 2011, 7.30 pm at Minsterworth Village Hall
A big thank you to all who attended this entertaining and informative evening with Alan Pilbeam at Minsterworth. The Village Hall has been recently refurbished to a high standard and the audience was warm and comfortable.
It was good to see so many Society members attending. Thank you also to those who took the opportunity to renew their membership.
In Seeing with the Soul as well as the Eye Alan Pilbeam looked at the descriptions and reflections on the landscape in the work of F.W. Harvey. Alan explored the landscapes that inspired Will Harvey and that were major influences in his work. He brought a new insight to Harvey’s work and provided Society members with much food for thought.
Frederick William Harvey (1888-1957) achieved fame as a War Poet, his first verses having been written while he served in the Great War. He was a friend of Ivor Gurney, the poet and songwriter, and Herbert Howells, the composer – all three were from Gloucestershire; Will Harvey was known as ‘The Laureate of Gloucestershire’ and ‘The Forest Poet’.
